Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are traumatic events that occur in childhood. They can include violence, abuse, and household dysfunction.
Toxic stress from ACEs can change brain development and affect how the body responds to stress even into adulthood and can be passed on to future generations.
ACEs can be prevented through shared learning, leadership expansion, and community capacity development, and buffered by positive experiences.
